Wave of attacks follows Easter ceasefire
Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles across Ukraine overnight, killing at least 15 people and wounding approximately 100, Ukrainian authorities reported on Wednesday. The strikes shattered a brief Orthodox Easter truce that both sides had accused each other of violating.
Casualties reported in Kyiv and Dnipro
In the capital, a 12-year-old boy was among four fatalities. Rescue teams in Kyiv's central Podilsky district extricated a mother and child from the rubble of a collapsed 16-story residential building. Four emergency medical workers were injured in the city's northern sector, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
In Dnipro, three people died and dozens were wounded. Social media images showed flames engulfing buildings in the southeastern city, as confirmed by regional administrator Oleksandr Ganzha.
Southern cities hit hard
Missile and drone strikes on Odesa killed eight people, said Sergiy Lysak, head of the city's military administration. Lysak noted renewed attacks on the port city early Thursday. Neighboring Mykolaiv and Kherson were left without electricity, local officials reported.
In Kharkiv, a drone strike injured a 77-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man, authorities stated.

Ukraine intercepts hundreds of Russian drones
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukrainian forces shot down 636 Russian drones in the past 24 hours. An air force report detailed nearly 700 drones, 19 ballistic missiles, and additional cruise missiles launched by Russia overnight.
"Another night that proves Russia does not deserve any softening of global policy or lifting of sanctions. Russia is betting on war, and that is exactly how the response should be-we must protect lives with all our might and press for peace with all our might as well."

Peace talks stalled amid divergent demands
The conflict, now in its fifth year, has seen multiple rounds of negotiations mediated by the U.S. However, progress halted after U.S. President Donald Trump shifted focus to the Middle East.
Kyiv has repeatedly proposed a full, stable ceasefire as a precursor to peace talks, while Moscow insists on finalizing a deal first. Ukrainian officials accuse Russia of lacking sincerity in ending the invasion.
