Pirates edge closer to play-off spot with crucial victory

The Cornish Pirates kept their play-off hopes alive last week after defeating third-placed Coventry, setting up a decisive final match against Hartpury this Saturday.

Recruitment drive gathers pace for new season

Head coach Joe Walsh revealed the club is actively strengthening its squad for the upcoming Championship campaign, having already secured deals with 14 out-of-contract players.

Among the new signings are forward Tomiwa Agbonbon, who has made his loan move permanent, and Gloucester's Hugh Bokenham, who has also joined on a full-time basis.

Walsh targets squad depth to handle Championship demands

While praising the club's progress in retaining key players, Walsh emphasized the need for greater squad depth to cope with the physical toll of the league.

"The Championship is a very rigorous league. Injuries can sideline players for three to four weeks, and for a squad of our size, that creates real difficulties."

He added that the club is focused on adding more players over the next two months to improve training quality and provide better injury cover.

Final match against Hartpury to decide play-off fate

The Pirates currently sit seventh in the table and must win their last game against sixth-placed Hartpury to secure a play-off spot. A loss would end their post-season ambitions.

Joint-head coach Gavin Cattle previously described the core of the squad as now secured, but Walsh stressed the importance of further reinforcements to maintain competitiveness.

Club leadership praised for off-field efforts

Walsh commended the board and management for their tireless work in securing new signings, calling the recent recruitment efforts a positive step forward for the club's development.
