China confirms purchase of 200 Boeing aircraft
China has finalized an agreement to acquire 200 Boeing jets, the country's Commerce Ministry announced on Wednesday, following last week's meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The deal includes US assurances to provide China with long-term access to aircraft engine components and spare parts, according to the ministry. Both nations also pledged to extend their October tariff truce and explore mutual reductions on $30 billion (£22.4 billion) or more in bilateral trade goods.

Trump's four-day trip to China yielded multiple trade commitments, including the Boeing order and increased market access for American agricultural exports. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday, Trump described the aircraft deal as historic, noting it could eventually expand to 750 planes-potentially the largest order in Boeing's history.
"We made a lot of great trade deals, including over 200 planes for Boeing, with a promise of 750 planes, which would be by far the largest order ever."

The US trade mission to China included high-profile business leaders such as Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg, Tesla founder Elon Musk, and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. In a statement, Boeing called the trip a success, emphasizing the reopening of China's market for its aircraft.
"We had a very successful trip to China and accomplished our major goal of reopening the China market to orders for Boeing aircraft. This included an initial commitment for 200 aircraft and we expect further commitments will follow after this initial tranche."

Recent trade truce sets stage for deal
The agreement builds on a prior understanding reached in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ahead of a Trump-Xi meeting in South Korea in October 2025. That accord extended a tariff truce through November 2026 and included reductions in US tariffs on Chinese goods, alongside Beijing's suspension of export restrictions on rare earth minerals and magnets.
