Bloodborne animated film announced at CinemaCon
The beloved 2015 PlayStation exclusive Bloodborne is being adapted into an animated film, co-produced by YouTube personality Jacksepticeye, Sony Pictures, and PlayStation Productions. Details about the plot and release date remain undisclosed, but the studios assure fans the adaptation will stay true to the game's essence.
CinemaCon reveals lineup of upcoming films
The announcement was made at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, an annual event where studios preview upcoming projects for cinema executives. The event began on Monday and featured exclusive clips from highly anticipated films, including a new Spider-Man sequel and The Social Reckoning, the follow-up to The Social Network.
Bloodborne's legacy and fan demand
Developed by FromSoftware, Bloodborne is celebrated for its challenging combat and gothic Victorian setting, building on the success of the studio's Dark Souls series. Despite its critical acclaim and cult following, the game has never received a sequel, leaving fans eager for more content.
FromSoftware has since shifted focus to other projects, including Elden Ring, which is also being adapted into a film. While video game adaptations have had mixed success in the past, the involvement of Sony and PlayStation Productions may ease concerns among fans.
Jacksepticeye's role in the adaptation
Jacksepticeye, whose real name is Seán McLoughlin, rose to fame as a YouTube creator but has recently expanded into acting. He appeared in the horror film Iron Lung, directed by fellow YouTuber Markiplier, and voiced a character in last year's video game Dispatch.
McLoughlin expressed his enthusiasm for the Bloodborne project in an Instagram story, stating, "I am going to do everything in my power to make this the best Bloodborne adaptation possible."
Other highlights from CinemaCon
Attendees were treated to a new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which revealed that Peter Parker's love interest, MJ (played by Zendaya), has moved on after Parker erased himself from her memory in the previous film. The clip reportedly left fans emotional.
Aaron Sorkin also presented a preview of The Social Reckoning, his upcoming film about Facebook whistleblowing, starring Succession's Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg. The cast includes Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, and Sierra Capri.
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black shared an exclusive look at Jumanji: Open World, with Johnson paying tribute to Robin Williams, the star of the original 1995 film.
