Silva's nine-year journey at City likely concluding

Manchester City assistant manager Pep Lijnders suggested midfielder Bernardo Silva's tenure at the club will conclude this summer, calling the Portuguese international irreplaceable but acknowledging that "every good story comes to an end."

Contract situation and transfer links

Silva, 31, is out of contract in June and has yet to agree an extension. Reports have connected him with moves to Barcelona, Juventus, and clubs in the United States. Lijnders addressed the speculation following City's 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool on Saturday, with manager Pep Guardiola absent due to a touchline ban.

Silva's legacy and impact

Lijnders praised Silva's unique qualities, highlighting his game control, movement, decision-making, and leadership. "You never replace a player with the same kind of player because they don't exist," he said. "Bernardo Silva is unique."

The assistant manager added that Silva's absence would be felt acutely, noting, "When he is not playing, you will see how he is missed-and that's one game. Imagine a season."

"Every good story comes to an end, and I hope he enjoys the last months-there are only six weeks-and has a good farewell. He deserves all that attention as well."

Silva's contributions and milestones

Silva joined City from Monaco in 2017 and made his 450th appearance for the club in Saturday's win. His 18th trophy with City came in the recent Carabao Cup success. Guardiola, who has selected Silva more than any other player in his managerial career, named him captain following Kevin De Bruyne's departure last summer.

City's approach to replacing Silva

Lijnders downplayed the idea of finding a direct replacement, instead emphasizing the need for players who can evolve with the team. "You never search for a replacement of one type of player," he said. "You search for what is needed to grow with the team and somebody who can fit in the first 11."

He also stressed the role of City's academy, saying, "If you see our young boys in the academy, then they have to make that step and grow. The most important is that the seniors who stay for a long time, that they stay, and around that, you can move."

Rumors have linked City with a summer move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, though no official approach has been confirmed.
