Silva's contract situation sparks speculation

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has yet to decide whether to extend his stay at the club, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season. The 31-year-old, who joined City from Monaco in 2017, has made 450 appearances for the Premier League champions.

Guardiola expresses hope for Silva's future at City

Manager Pep Guardiola stated he would "love" Silva to "finish his career" at Manchester City but emphasized the decision rests solely with the player. Despite recent links to clubs like Barcelona, Juventus, and MLS teams, Guardiola admitted he remains unaware of Silva's plans.

"I'm so grumpy with Bernardo because a month ago I said, 'if you take a decision I have to be the first to [know]', and he didn't say anything to me yet. I think the proper one must be Bernardo. I don't know if he has already decided."

Lijnders hints at potential departure

City assistant coach Pep Lijnders recently suggested Silva's nine-year tenure at the club may conclude this summer. Following City's 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final victory over Liverpool, Lijnders remarked, "Every good story comes to an end," while expressing hope Silva enjoys his final months at the club.

"You never replace a player with the same kind of player because they don't exist. But every good story comes to an end, and I hope he enjoys the last months-there are only six weeks-and has a good farewell."

Silva's impact and legacy at City

Silva, who was named club captain last summer following Kevin De Bruyne's departure, reached a milestone with his 450th appearance in City's EFL Cup final win over Arsenal last month. Guardiola praised Silva's consistency and leadership, highlighting his competitive spirit and reliability in high-pressure moments.

"He is not the tallest one, the most muscular one, or score 50 goals or make 50 assists a season. These are the type of players that are spotlighted and everyone talks about. From nine years, I know him quite well and for what a manager requires. All managers would say how much they love him because he is incredibly competitive, has a fire inside him always."

Next steps

With only six weeks remaining in the season, Silva's future remains unresolved. Guardiola reiterated that the final decision lies with the player, stating, "He will decide what he will decide. It is his decision."
