BBC announces tribute for Attenborough's centenary
The BBC will honor Sir David Attenborough's 100th birthday on 8 May with a week of dedicated programming, featuring new productions and classic series from the legendary broadcaster.
New programmes unveiled
Among the highlights is Making Life on Earth: Attenborough's Greatest Adventure, a behind-the-scenes look at his groundbreaking 1979 series Life on Earth. The documentary will include fresh interviews with Attenborough and the original production team, revisiting challenges such as filming during a coup in the Comoros, evading gunfire, and his iconic encounter with gorillas in Rwanda.
A second new series, Secret Garden, will see Attenborough explore the hidden ecosystems of Britain's gardens. Filmed across the UK, the five-part series will showcase the diversity of wildlife in domestic spaces and offer insights into protecting endangered species.
Live celebration at Royal Albert Hall
The centenary week will culminate in David Attenborough's 100 Years on Planet Earth, a live event at London's Royal Albert Hall featuring the BBC Concert Orchestra and special guests.
Classic series return
The BBC will also rebroadcast episodes from Attenborough's most celebrated works, including Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Frozen Planet, and his recent special Wild London.
