Joshua shares first post since tragic accident
British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has spoken publicly for the first time following a road collision in Nigeria that claimed the lives of two close friends.
Crash details emerge
The 36-year-old former two-time world champion was traveling as a passenger in a Lexus SUV when it struck a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos. The incident occurred while Joshua was en route to visit relatives in Sagamu, Ogun state, for New Year celebrations.
Among the victims were Joshua's longtime friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele. Their funerals were held at a London mosque on Sunday.
Joshua's condition and return
Joshua was hospitalized after the crash but was discharged on Wednesday. He returned to the UK over the weekend and posted two photographs on Instagram on Sunday morning. One image showed him seated with his mother and family members of the victims, including the mothers of Ghami and Ayodele, one of whom held a photograph of Ghami.
The post carried the caption: "My Brothers Keeper."
Legal proceedings begin
The driver of the Lexus, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, appeared in Sagamu Magistrates' Court on Friday. He faces charges including causing death by dangerous driving, according to police sources cited by the BBC.
Kayode was granted bail set at 5 million naira (£2,578) and remains in custody pending fulfillment of bail conditions. The case has been adjourned until 20 January.
Background and recent activities
Joshua, born in Watford but with family ties to Sagamu, had been in Nigeria following his victory over American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on 19 December. The trip was intended as a holiday visit to relatives before the fatal collision.
