Full identification of injured in Crans-Montana fire confirmed

Swiss authorities announced Monday that all 116 individuals injured in the New Year's Eve blaze at a popular ski resort bar have now been identified. The fire, which erupted in Crans-Montana, claimed 40 lives, with victims aged between 14 and 39.

Casualties and ongoing hospitalizations

While the deceased were identified earlier, officials had been working to confirm the identities of the injured, some of whom suffered severe burns. As of Monday, 83 people remained hospitalized, with their conditions described as critical in some cases. The injured include at least 12 nationalities, according to Swiss police.

The initial count of 119 injured was later revised downward to 116.

Investigation focuses on bar management and fire cause

A criminal probe has been launched into the French couple managing the Le Constellation bar, a venue frequented by younger patrons in the resort town, where the legal drinking age is 16. Preliminary findings suggest sparklers on bottles, carried too close to the ceiling, likely triggered the fire.

Valais canton lead prosecutor Beatrice Pilloud stated investigators are examining whether the venue's acoustic foam ceiling contributed to the blaze and whether it met regulatory standards.

Victims' stories emerge

Details about some of the victims have begun to surface. Among them was 15-year-old Charlotte Niddam, a student at two UK schools. Her family shared on social media: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter and sister Charlotte."

The mother of 16-year-old Arthur Brodard confirmed his death in a video message, saying: "We can start our mourning, knowing that he is in peace and in the light."

Italian media identified 16-year-old Emanuele Galeppini, a junior golfer, as another victim. The Italian Golf Federation paid tribute to the "young athlete who carried with him passion and authentic values."

Next steps in the investigation

Authorities continue to gather evidence to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether safety regulations were violated. The probe is expected to focus on the bar's compliance with fire safety measures and the role of the venue's management.
