Boy dies after stabbing in Tomar parish

Alfie Hallett, a 13-year-old British national, was found with multiple knife wounds in Casais, central Portugal, on Tuesday and later pronounced dead, authorities confirmed.

Suspect dies in explosion after incident

Portuguese police said a suspect-identified as the former partner of the boy's mother-was discovered with similar injuries and died in what appeared to be a gas explosion. The blast also injured a National Republican Guard officer who responded to the scene.

Mother hospitalized after assault

The boy's mother was found by authorities showing signs of restraint and physical assault, police reported. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A police spokesperson stated the suspect had previously served prison time for aggravated homicide and had been linked to domestic violence cases involving the family in 2022 and 2023.

Tributes pour in for young athlete

Alfie's basketball club, Sport Club Operário Cem Soldos (SCOCS), shared an emotional tribute on Facebook, calling his death a profound loss for the team.

"SCOCS Basketball has just become poorer today. Our athlete Alfie passed away today at the age of 13. He played his last game on Saturday, played so well that it seemed like he knew it was his last game-but far from imagining it. We want to tell you how much we love you and that you will always be in our hearts. Rest in peace."

Investigation underway

The Leiria Criminal Investigation Department is leading the probe into both deaths. Portuguese media identified the mother and child as British nationals, while the suspect was reportedly a Portuguese citizen.

The UK Foreign Office said it was in contact with local authorities following the incident.
